Elk Grove Unified School District  

Located in Sacramento County, California, the Elk Grove Unified School District is recognized nationally for its rigorous graduation requirements, strong academic programs, safe schools, quality facilities, talented and caring staff, and parent involvement. The district offers accelerated classes in elementary schools, academically oriented career academies in the high schools, year-round scheduling, school uniforms, and technology at all grade levels. Additionally, my Board of Education adopted a "zero tolerance" policy for behavior in 1979 and approved Standards and Benchmarks in language arts and math in 1995. Elk Grove Unified is one of the fastest growing school districts in the nation. Enrollment has grown from 18,000 in 1987 to 47,300 in 2000. It is projected to reach 80,000 by 2010.
